5.29.24 End of year tasks for ELI and MTSS

The school year is winding down. Here are a few reminders about tasks that need attention for ELI, MTSS and FastBridge:

The spring window closes 5/31. You can find literacy status determinations for students in Panorama on the students pages. Make sure to share ideas with parents of students who are at risk for literacy problems so that they can keep their child’s reading skills active through the summer months.

Action needed: Changes to default assessment selection process

Based on feedback from the field, there will be two opportunities to review and update default assessments for the 2024-25 school year in CASA, as well as a change in who can submit the district level report. The window for the first collection of default assessment selections and assessment contacts is May 29th-June 17th. The same collection will open again August 1-23rd for any last minute changes and to allow districts to confirm their default assessment choices, assurances, etc. A response is required for each of the collection periods. The building level must be completed by either the building principal or the superintendent, and the district level can be completed by others with district-submit permission. We recommend working with your administrative team now to discuss your default assessments for the next year and to coordinate a plan for timely completion and assignment of this task and communication of the final decisions.

More information on how to complete the default assessment and assessment contact collection are available within the CASA collection itself. The FastBridge K-6 literacy assessment suite continues to be recommended by the Iowa DE and is available at no cost. Check out the list of approved literacy assessments if you wish to explore other options.

Action needed: Select your district’s FastBridge rollover date

FastBridge has posted their annual request for districts to select their rollover date to move to the 2024-25 school year setup in FastBridge. Please make your selection so that the process runs smoothly. Important note: As always, Iowa districts are strongly discouraged from selecting the late rollover date. Due to the timing of the Fall screening window and the time it takes for rosters to begin populating after rollover, selecting the late rollover likely means you will not have student rosters until early to mid-September.

End of Year/Summer Rollover Checklist

Remember to take care of end of year tasks in FastBridge and Panorama Student Success, including saving reports that go away on rollover (s2i, for example). Make sure to review your interventions in Panorama, look at the intervention summary reports to understand more about intervention effectiveness, and evaluate whether students met their intervention goals or not. Also take time to reflect on overall progress this year. Does your screening data suggest a need to examine core instruction? Which interventions are most and least effective?

If you are changing student information systems over the summer please notify connor.hood@iowa.gov so we can update your data connections.
