Frequently Asked Questions: Behavior in Student Success

Important: All information on behavior data integration is to the best of our current knowledge. This is new functionality that is still a work in progress and it’s a learning process. We’ll keep this document updated, as new information becomes available.

How does the behavior data get into Student Success? How frequently is it updated?

The behavior data (problem behaviors, actions taken, removals, etc.) entered into your local student information system (SIS) is imported nightly into Student Success. There is no data connection with other systems such as SWIS, so behavior data tracked in those systems will not be visible in Student Success.

Why can’t we can’t see any behavior data for some or all grades in Student Success?

There may not be any data coming from your SIS. The first thing to check is that your SIF agent is set up to send behavior data. You may need to reach out to your SIS vendor support team, if you’re uncertain about these settings. Also, remember that only data entered into your SIS will be populated. If your district uses an additional system, such as SWIS, the data will not be imported.

After ensuring that the SIF agent setup is correct, if you need additional assistance, submit a support request in Student Success or email support_iowa@panoramaed.com. Please provide an example student that we can search for, it’s best to select a student who has a few known behavior incidents in your SIS. Include the building, grade, student name (first and last), and the dates of the known office referrals so we can look for them.

The behavior data displayed in Student Success is incorrect, what should we do?

Keep in mind, this is new functionality and there are lots of quirks to work out in Student Success, in your SIS, etc., which may take time and we’re still learning about. If anything appears incorrect, please submit a support request in Student Success or email support_iowa@panoramaed.com. In order to investigate, we’ll need the building, student name (first and last name), the nature of the errors, including one or two specific examples. Screenshots are always helpful.

Known issue with behavior data for Powerschool users: Powerschool sends the time that the behavior incident was logged rather than the time the incident occurred. This will cause behavior incident timing inaccuracies for students in Powerschool districts.

What behavior data is displayed in Student Success?

Behavior data is displayed in detail on the individual student profile, as well as a behavior indicator on the Overview report. Behavior indicators displayed in Student Success are based on data including office discipline referrals, infractions, and suspensions. The behavior indicator is based on the percentage of days with incidents, not the number of incidents. This makes it easier to watch for students’ improvement in this area.

Is behavior only major office referrals? Is there a way to see minors as well?

The behavior should be all office referrals, major and minor. There may be reasons for some to not be visible now. For example, JMC currently doesn't send some behavior info. They are working on it.

What do the risk level indicators On Track for College/Career Readiness, On Track for Graduation, At Risk, and Critical mean?

Below are the criteria for each indicator. Note that “On Track…” really means low risk of behavior causing problems, and does not actually evaluate graduation or career readiness.
  • On Track for College/Career Readiness - students that have not had any incidents
  • On Track for Graduation - students that have had incidents on 1-2% of school days
  • At Risk - students that have had incidents on 3-5% of school days
  • Critical - students that have had incidents on more than 5% of school days
